The 5th project meeting (Kraków 1-2 March, 2016)

The Faculty of Forestry of the University of Agriculture in Kraków organized 5th  project meeting of the consortium implementing the project REMBIOFOR „Remote sensing based assessment of woody biomass and carbon storage in forests” founded by the National Centre for Research and Development within the program „Natural environment, agriculture and forestry” BIOSTRATEG, under the agreement no. BIOSTRATEG1/267755/4/NCBR/2015.

The meeting was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry professor Stanisław Orzeł, who mentioned in his speech the first studies in the field of biomass which were conducted in Poland by professor Władysław Grodziński.

Afterwards the Head of the Department of Biometry and Forest Productivity PhD Jarosław Socha presented a range of research and development work carried out by the department.

During the meritorical part of the meeting PhD Krzysztof Stereńczak (Forest Research Institute) presented work which was completed according to the scope of the project for 2015.

Subsequently PhD Andrzej M. Jagodziński (The Institute of Dendrology in Kórnik) presented the progress of works for the acquisition of wood biomass in investigated areas as well as laboratory job which was carried out by the consortium.

PhD Dariusz Ziółkowski from Institute of Geodesy and Cartography in Warszawa discussed the opportunity which we can get from radar interferometry images for the requirements of modelling the aboveground biomass.

In the next presentation PhD Zbigniew Karaszewski (The Wood Technology Institute) presented task related to the determination of the density of the wood.

During the last day of the presentation professor Stanisław Miścicki (Warsaw University of Life Sciences) with PhD Krzysztof Stereńczak (Forest Research Institute) presented the method used for determining the volume of stands using ALS technology for the goal of the project.

At the end of the meeting PhD Krzysztof Stereńczak determined in the collaboration with the partners work and their deadlines for the second quarter of 2016.
